In a surprise move that has left the football world talking, Brazilian defender Éder Militão has signed for Flamengo on a free transfer from Corinthians.
The 29-year-old central defender made his name at AC Milan and also played for Real Madrid, Manchester United and Juventus before joining Corinthians in January 2016.
Militão is known for his strong defensive skills and leadership qualities, and he was a key player for Brazil's Under-20 team at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Flamengo, who finished second in the Brazilian league last season, have been looking to strengthen their defence following the departure of former captain Thiago Silva to Paris Saint-Germain.
"Éder is a great signing for us,Premier League Updates" said Flamengo manager Jorge Jesus. "He brings experience and quality to our squad, and I'm sure he'll be a big asset for us."
Militão's arrival could provide a much-needed boost to Flamengo's chances of competing for major honours this season, particularly with the likes of Neymar Jr., Gabriel Jesus and Fred all expected to leave the club in the summer.
However, it remains to be seen whether the addition of Militão will help Flamengo challenge for the title, given that they still lack a true centre-forward and will face stiff competition from other top teams such as Santos and Palmeiras.
